The Milwaukee Bucks have always gone the extra mile to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo happy, as teams usually do with their star players.
That’s why they’ve never hesitated to keep his brother Thanasis around, regardless of the criticism from the fans about that.
Some fans believe that Thanasis isn’t good enough to even be in the league and that he’s only taking a roster spot because he’s Giannis’ brother.
Whether that’s the case or not, it seems like another organization had an interest in luring him away, as he recently told Basketball News that he was pretty close to joining the New York Knicks this summer (via NBA Central).
Thanasis Antetokounmpo reveals he was ‘close’ to leaving Milwaukee for the Knicks this summer

Thanasis states that as much as he loves Giannis and enjoys being on his team, he also wants to play, and maybe a move to the Knicks would’ve favored him.
Notably, the Knicks were actually his first team in the league.
He spent a couple of years in their D-League affiliate and even made two appearances for them before taking his talents overseas and then signing with the Bucks.
Not everyone can make it to the NBA, regardless of who his brother is.
Thanasis is a professional basketball player and has had a somewhat decent career overseas, so perhaps his game is better suited for another tournament.
Still, he’ll hope to finally be on the court more often after resigning with the Bucks, as he’s averaged just 8.3 minutes per game and 2.7 minutes per game throughout the course of his NBA career.
