The Houston Texans have made it official: C.J. Stroud will be their starting quarterback for the upcoming campaign.

Regardless of the fact that Davis Mills had a somewhat solid rookie campaign and then some regression last season, Stroud’s place as QB1 was never in doubt.

Some teams choose to ease things up and take things slowly with their young quarterbacks, so some people speculated that Mills could be under center for the first couple of games of the season, but that wasn’t the case.

Being just 21 years old, Stroud knows he’s being trusted with a huge responsibility, but according to a report by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, he’s ready to embrace that leadership role right out of the gate.

“You gotta keep working. It was definitely a blessing, something that I think I’ve worked for and definitely earned, but at the same time nothing else really changes,” Stroud said.

“I’m blessed to be a starter so young in this league, which isn’t the easiest thing to do, but I know my coaches have faith and trust in me, and I’ll go out there and try to do my best.”

Stroud has always been more mature than the average young player.

His talents and work ethic paved the way for him to serve as Justin Fields’ backup for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and he became a school legend once he took the reins of the team.

Stroud’s ability to put up video game-like numbers in college made him a lock to make the pros as soon as he was eligible to enter the NFL Draft, which is why it was far from a surprise to see him go No. 2 in his class.

Now, he’ll have to put in even more work to pay back that confidence on the field.
