The Kansas City Chiefs’ 2023 NFL Season begins with a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Detroit Lions.
As both teams prepare for this game, the Chiefs have suffered a fair share of injuries, also finding themselves in the middle of contract disputes.
This is a potential roadblock for the Chiefs, who are looking to reclaim their title as Super Bowl Champions.
The team has received some positive news if James Palmer’s recent comments are any indication.
According to Palmer via NFL Total Access, “There’s some optimism that he [Kadarius Toney] is going to be able to go for the Chiefs in this opener.”
Can #chiefs WR Kadarius Toney, who has missed all of training camp with a partially torn meniscus, actually play Week 1 vs the #lions? There’s some optimism. My report @nfltotalaccess on @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/ycpCcr4nS5

Toney suffered from a meniscus tear in the offseason, causing him to miss training camp.
As Palmer indicates, he could be getting better, potentially well enough to play in the season opener.
The Chiefs have struggled to find a WR1 after the departure of Tyreek Hill.
JuJu Smith-Schuster played well throughout the 2022 season, but he has since left for the New England Patriots.
The team traded for Toney last year, who was able to make an impact when he was healthy.
With any luck, this report will come to fruition.
Toney’s NFL career has been up and down thus far, and he enters his third year with renewed expectations.
The former first-round draft pick from the New York Giants has a lot to prove this year.
If there’s any quarterback to get him back on track, helping Toney establish himself in the league, it would likely be Mahomes.
