The NFL season is right around the corner.
Week 1 begins on September 7 with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Detroit Lions.
That game will undoubtedly feature one of the best players in football, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
When talking about the best players in the sport, Mahomes should be the first name most people say.
Stephen A. Smith released his list of top-five players in the NFL.
There are not many surprises on his list led by Mahomes.

After Mahomes, you can argue the next-best player.
If you are going off of positional value then the list would be filled with quarterbacks.
But, Stephen A. seemingly went off script when he put edge rusher Nick Bosa third and wide receiver Justin Jefferson fifth.
It is hard to argue with either of those players as Bosa won Defensive Player of the Year and Jefferson won Offensive Player of the Year last season.
Both are among the game’s elite and are deserving of their spot on any top-five list.
Stephen A. went with quarterbacks in spots two and four with Joe Burrow and Josh Allen.
Mahomes, Burrow, and Allen are always mentioned as the top quarterbacks in the league so it is no surprise to see them here.
It will be interesting to see if Burrow and Allen can take that next step toward winning the league MVP this year.
Both are more than capable of dethroning Mahomes for the award.
For now, they are still chasing the Chiefs quarterback for the top spot in the league.
