Denver Broncos fans are hoping that the 2022 season was an outlier as the team woefully underperformed expectations and missed the playoffs entirely.
The Broncos swung a blockbuster trade to bring in Russell Wilson as their starting quarterback, though he looked like a shell of himself from the get-go.
Wilson looked uncharacteristically lost in former head coach Nathaniel Hackett’s scheme as he was inaccurate as a passer and seemed indecisive about where he wanted to go with the football.
With Denver clearly going in the wrong direction, the organization fired Hackett and brought in Sean Payton to right the ship.
Payton is well-known in league circles for his work with quarterbacks and is an ideal person to help get Wilson back on track.
However, former NFL player James Jones believes that Wilson will eventually get benched for his poor performance during the regular season via Speak.

Jones believes that nothing’s changed with Wilson and that he is going to be replaced halfway through the season.
Jarrett Stidham is currently the backup to Wilson and has shown that he’s capable of running the offense as evidenced by his strong preseason.
The Broncos signed Stidham to a two-year, $10 million contract in free agency which signals that they believe in his abilities to step in if needed.
Payton and the rest of the franchise are going to need Wilson to step up if they hope to compete, though Stidham’s waiting in the wings should things go awry again.
