On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Angels made some headlines when they shockingly placed six players, many of which were acquired at the trade deadline, on waivers.
One of those players is veteran right-hander Lucas Giolito, who the Halos picked up from the Chicago White Sox.
Teams have until today to place claims on waived players in order for them to be eligible to play in the postseason.
However, MLB Network insider Greg Amsinger believes that a certain non-contender could potentially take a flyer on Giolito, and discussed the possibility of the right-hander making a brief stop with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Amsinger explained, via 101 ESPN St. Louis, why he thinks this move would make sense for the Cardinals.
Though they remain in last place in the NL Central, they do plan on being back in postseason contention in 2024.
However, in order to do that, they’ll need to fill three rotation spots.
Giolito is somebody that the Cardinals may want to take a look at.
Amsinger notes that now may be the perfect time to pick him up and give him a taste of the Cardinals culture to see if he enjoys playing in St. Louis.
In that case, St. Louis may have some leverage if they choose to target Giolito in free agency this offseason.
Amsinger believes this could be an important test run for the Cardinals to potentially show Giolito if they are indeed interested in him.
Perhaps before the end of the season, if he joins the Cardinals, St. Louis could sign him to a contract extension and check an item off of their to-do list for the winter.
