The 65-68 New York Yankees hadn’t won a series in a while.

On Thursday, they will have the chance to sweep the Detroit Tigers.

They hadn’t put together a stretch of three or four games of all-around solid play in weeks, maybe months.

A few days ago, they decided to call up Everson Pereira and Oswald Peraza, starting a youth revolution that might have had something to do with this week’s success.

Virtually out of postseason contention, the Yankees are now embracing the youth.

According to MLB insider Jeff Passan, New York is calling up two prized prospects when rosters expand on Friday.

“The New York Yankees are calling up their top two prospects, outfielder Jasson Dominguez and catcher Austin Wells, sources tell ESPN. The 20-year-old Dominguez, a center fielder, and 24-year-old Wells, a catcher, are expected to debut with the team this weekend in Houston,” Passan wrote on Twitter.

Wells, a bat-first catching prospect, and the “Martian” Dominguez represent the future for the Yankees at two key positions.

Dominguez slashed .254/.367/.414 with 15 home runs and 37 stolen bases in Double-A, earning himself a promotion to Triple-A where he has been even better, slashing .419/.514/.581 in nine games.

Wells, on the other hand, was hitting .254/.349/.452 in 33 Triple-A games at the time of being called up, and he was also good in a long Double-A stint.

Getting these players some plate appearances in what is left of the 2023 campaign is very important for the 2024 Yankees.

They need to know how they handle themselves with the bright lights, and how they manage pressure and huge expectations.

They have all the talent in the world: now, it’s a matter of adjusting to facing the best pitchers on the planet.
