The Dallas Cowboys officially have a new quarterback on their roster.

In a surprising move to many, Trey Lance was traded to the Cowboys from the San Francisco 49ers, likely as their backup.

When this move was announced, mixed reviews made their way across the internet.

This included a tweet from Steve Young, who said, “Trade nothing to Dallas ever.”

This is a likely callback to Young’s playing days.

While Young was a member of the San Francisco 49ers, top defender Charles Haley was traded to the Cowboys.

Haley went on to have a fantastic career with the Cowboys, winning three Super Bowls as a member of the team.

This trade took a valuable piece away from the 49ers’ defense.

While the Cowboys might not necessarily be in a position to win a Super Bowl this season, it is a similar conclusion for Young to draw from.

However, Lance is an unproven talent, heading to the Cowboys as more of a project piece rather than an established veteran.

It is very unlikely that he’ll make a Haley-level impact on the organization, given that Dak Prescott is still there.

Some pundits believe Lance is there to put some pressure on Prescott, hoping to give him competition for the starting gig.

There is a lot of nuance to this situation, and many Cowboys fans are curious to see how everything plays out.

The Cowboys’ season opener is less than two weeks away.

If Prescott struggles early, will Lance get an opportunity to take over as the starter?
