When it comes to the NBA “GOAT” argument, fans generally consider Michael Jordan and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James to be the main candidates for the honor.
Jordan’s resume is almost unparalleled as a six-time NBA champion and Finals MVP, as well as numerous other accolades he managed to accomplish.
However, James’ longevity has allowed him to break several milestones and records in the NBA including most recently the all-time scoring record previously held by fellow Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Both Jordan and James are in a class of their own and while there are certainly other league legends who deserve an honorable mention, it’s clear that those two are at the top of the list.
The older generation of basketball fans will argue tooth and nail for Jordan, while the newer wave will prefer James.
Stephen A. Smith is a staunch Jordan supporter and he argued for him over James in his appearance on Club Shay Shay.

Smith has long always argued for Jordan as the greatest of all time, and his primary reasoning is that the Chicago Bulls icon went undefeated in the Finals.
James has made the Finals 10 times in his career but lost six of them and that is generally the main knock against him.
While Jordan certainly has the edge record-wise, Shannon Sharpe argues that the number of times that James made it all the way to the championship round should be taken into account.
These types of arguments always come down to what a person values most, and for Smith it’s clear he values Jordan’s unblemished Finals record.
