ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has made a career out of being the loudest voice in the room when it comes to debates in the sports world, especially when it comes to debates about NBA topics.

Recently, Smith went on a rant about how Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all time, and LeBron James comes in at No. 2 ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who he recently passed on the NBA’s all-time scoring list during the 2022-23 season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Smith claims that he got into a heated debate with agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, who believes it’s an insult that Jordan is ahead of James in the GOAT debate.

The ESPN analyst then went on to say that he had some choice words for Paul to end the discussion, which Paul vehemently denies, via “Gil’s Arena.”

With everyone looking for juicy stories to use on podcasts like these in today’s era of sports, there’s no telling what went down between Paul and Smith, as those are two massive egos who are highly successful at what they do.

Whatever the case may be between Smith and Paul, the fact of the matter is the GOAT debate in the NBA will likely continue to be a heated discussion, especially if James doesn’t win another championship in his NBA career.

Fortunately for James, the Lakers are looking like a talented basketball team once again with the potential of winning it all next season, but there’s no telling how things will pan out in Los Angeles or what the GOAT debate will look like in five years.
