Discussions of a potential Damian Lillard trade have persisted throughout the NBA’s offseason.
After requesting a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, Lillard has made it abundantly clear that he wants to play for the Miami Heat.
While this may be his desire, the two sides must come to an equitable agreement.
With less than two months to go until the regular season begins, both sides are running out of time.
In a recent conversation with Cristos Tsaltas, Brian Windhorst detailed the latest into this situation.
“They are not having any discussions about it right now,” Windhorst said.

“They’re not having any discussions right now. Eventually he’ll be traded. There’s a good chance for the Miami Heat, but…”. #HeatCulture @SportalgrG

While Windhorst’s initial comments might have taken the wind out of the sails of Heat fans, later comments provided a slight boost.
“Eventually, he’ll be traded,” Windhorst said.
When a player of Lillard’s caliber requests a trade from their organization, the team typically grants their request.
The Trail Blazers might not like their current situation, but trading Lillard could be in their best interest.
Not only would they receive a haul for this elite player, but they would move on from Lillard while his value is very high.
Many believe Lillard has several years of solid NBA production left.
By trading him now, the Trail Blazers hold a lot of leverage, especially if the Heat continue to pursue him.
The Heat made it to the NBA Finals last season, eventually losing to the Denver Nuggets.
Can Lillard’s All-Star presence be enough to bring this team over the top, forcing their hand to trade for him?
