When Jonathan Taylor’s trade request from the Indianapolis Colts went public, it sparked a league-wide conversation.

Many fans wondered what this meant for their favorite team, and if they’d be willing to make a move for him.

To this point, nothing has happened, leaving the Colts without their top rusher for the first four weeks of the season.

Now, the Colts’ running back room will have to adjust, hoping they can find production elsewhere.

In a recent conversation with the Indy Star shared via Around the NFL, head coach Shane Steichen peeled back the curtain, revealing the team’s thoughts.

“I think it’s a running back-by-committee,” Steichen said, later adding, “Whoever’s got the hot hand, let ’em ride a little bit.”

The next two players up for the Colts are Evan Hull and Deon Jackson.

Hull was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and his potential impact on this offense is relatively unknown.

He has received some buzz throughout training camp, and many pundits believe he can be a serviceable fill-in.

Jackson does have some NFL experience, as he was called upon to take some snaps in Taylor’s absence last season.

In 16 games last season, Jackson totaled 236 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, averaging 3.5 yards per carry.

He also added 30 receptions for 209 yards and a receiving touchdown.

This demonstrated to the Colts that he can be an option in their offense, a viable piece of the team.

Having a back with Jackson’s receiving abilities could be what rookie Anthony Richardson needs to succeed in year one.
