LeBron James is the greatest player in Cleveland Cavaliers history; that’s just a fact.
Delivering a ring to his hometown team — especially after all they went through — cemented his legacy in Cleveland forever, even if he left again.
That’s why there wasn’t a lot of criticism of him for walking away from the team again, but it was kind of shocking to see him sign for the Los Angeles Lakers.
With that in mind, LeBron’s lifelong friend and agent, Rich Paul, shed some light on his decision to join the Purple and Gold, telling Gilbert Arenas that it was just out of boredom.
Paul explained that LeBron gets bored easily, and that he had already climbed the mountaintop once, so there wasn’t anything else he could achieve in Cleveland.
The Lakers had an interesting set of young talent at the time, and the opportunity to win championships with three different organizations was also quite appealing for the veteran forward.
James’ tenure in Los Angeles has been a bit of a roller coaster.
From not making the playoffs to winning an NBA championship and then being eliminated in the first round, it’s hard to rank him among the greatest players in franchise history.
Even so, he made history wearing that jersey when he broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record, and his contributions to the league and the sport could also lead the team to retire his jersey, even if he doesn’t win another championship with the organization before he retires.
