The New Orleans Pelicans have spent a lot of time, money, and resources trying to get Zion Williamson on the court, but to no avail.

The former No. 1 pick has missed more than 50% of the games since he entered the league, constantly struggling to get and stay in shape and dealing with countless injuries.

That was a major concern with Zion since he was playing for the Duke Blue Devils, and all analysts, scouts, players, and even the fans agreed that he needed to drop some weight to stay healthy.

That’s why ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith believes it’s not a matter of his genetics but motivation, dedication, and work ethic.

In his recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay, Stephen A. claimed that he thinks Zion doesn’t want to be in New Orleans, which is why he simply doesn’t care enough (via Legion Hoops).

Stephen A. Smith:

“If Zion Williamson was in New York… we’d see a more dedicated Zion.”

He added that if he played in a big market like the New York Knicks, we’d see a more dedicated Zion.

That makes sense, but if that’s the case, there are better ways to get yourself out of a place.

Zion missed more than half a season with an injury that usually takes weeks to heal, and he’s not doing his body any favors by not taking proper care of it.

He’s just too talented and he makes the game so much more fun when he’s on the court, but it’s starting to look like he’ll never be able to play a full season without getting hurt.
