No matter how many awards he brings home and how many championships he wins, people will always debate the greatness of LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers.

On Tuesday morning, Skip Bayless and his “Undisputed” cohorts were doing that once again.

Richard Sherman gave a strong, impassioned defense of James and the career he’s had.

“Give the man the credit he deserves,” Sherman pleaded with Bayless.

He went on:

“We’re talking about a 19-time All-Star, 19-time All-NBA, the all-time leading scorer like he’s a bum. If he played in the ’60s or ’70s, people would be talking about him like Kareem and Wilt.”

Sherman said that both Michael Jordan and James won the Finals multiple times.

While those are huge honors, they are also team honors, Sherman said.

Therefore, you also need to consider the individual accolades each player has earned when speaking of their skills and place in history.

To that end, James has a slew of trophies and accomplishments that speak for themselves.

Comparing James to Jordan is something that sportscasters will do until the end of time and this debate will be repeated again and again.

Sherman may have a point: if James played during a different period in history, he would unquestionably be compared to some of the best ever.

At the same time, if Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain played today, they would likely be argued about as James is now.

The same is true for Jordan too.

Far into the future, people will argue about James and his career.

There will always be defenders and detractors but the number of awards and victories speak for themselves.
