Analyst Gives An Update On Joe Burrow’s New Contract

Before superstar quarterback Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals went down with a calf strain in practice in July, Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers had just signed his contract extension, which made him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

This essentially started the clock for Burrow and the Bengals to get a deal done, as he was the next elite quarterback eligible to sign an extension and reset the quarterback market.

Even though it might’ve been wise for Burrow to sit out of training camp until a deal got done, he chose to participate and went down shortly after that, which caused concern about the contract talks and his status heading into the 2023 NFL season.

Although the Bengals still haven’t gotten a new deal done for Burrow, it appears that there’s no concern about things falling apart heading into Week 1, as NFL insider Mike Lombardi made clear on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday.

With Burrow being arguably one of the top two or three quarterbacks in the game, it would be in the best interest of the team to get a deal done sooner rather than later, but there seems to be no rush in putting pen to paper at this point in time.

However, with only a few days left before the Bengals take on the Cleveland Browns on the road in Week 1, there could be a lot of work being done behind the scenes to make it happen before Sunday in order to avoid these contract talks being a distraction during the season.
