When it comes to head coaches, the gold standard remains New England Patriots leader Bill Belichick.

Belichick is renowned around the NFL for being the best at his job and although the Patriots aren’t what they used to be, the respect for the head coach remains as strong as ever.

Since Tom Brady left, Belichick’s been forced to rebuild the football team and that has obviously come with its struggles.

The defense remains the strong suit of the roster, but the offense is a clear work in progress.

Seeing the Patriots struggle must still be weird for the fans as they are so used to winning with Belichick on the sidelines, though it’s a sign that times are changing.

New England’s struggles have prompted some to even ponder out loud whether or not Belichick’s job is on the line though people like Charles Barkley are completely against that notion via The Bill Simmons Podcast.

“I love Belichick,” Barkley said. “I consider him a good friend. I’m so disgusted with some of these punk a** guys on television talking about Bill being on the hot seat and things like that. It shouldn’t even be close to the hot seat.”

Barkley has worked in sports for a long time and understands how the media can get carried away when it comes to head coaches and their job security.

There’s no doubt that the Patriots’ record has been less than stellar in recent years, though there are almost no indicators that Belichick’s time as the head coach is coming to an end.
