For Russell Wilson, there is a lot riding on his second year with the Denver Broncos as the quarterback looks to prove he can lead the franchise to a Super Bowl.

Wilson’s first season with the Broncos went poorer than anyone could expect as he and the team floundered to a 5-12 record that was good for last in the AFC West.

There were several reasons for Denver’s underwhelming year, though most people will still point to Wilson as the root cause.

There’s no denying that Wilson had by far one of the worst seasons of his career, but because he played so badly some believe that the only way is up from here on out.

The Super Bowl champion didn’t quite look right with the Broncos last season and some of that can be attributed to poor conditioning.

However, it looks like he’s rectified that issue as he has reportedly slimmed down this offseason via Seth Wickersham of ESPN.

For a mobile quarterback like Wilson, losing 15 pounds of weight can make all the difference on the field.

Wilson did look a little bigger than usual last year, so this recent report has to be encouraging for Denver and Sean Payton.

Losing weight is just one step toward Wilson recapturing his form, though.

The signal caller’s also going to have to prove that he’s durable enough to withstand a 17-game regular season as well as pick up a new offensive system.

There are going to be a lot of obstacles for Wilson to overcome in 2023 and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
