Travis Kelce’s status is in doubt for the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the 2023 season opener.
It has recently been reported that he has a bone bruise, something he suffered during practice.
The Chiefs’ offense has revolved around the chemistry between him and Patrick Mahomes, which will look different if he misses time.
LeSean McCoy shared his concerns about Kelce’s potential absence in a segment of “Speak” on FS1.
“I’m just worried about the Chiefs because we haven’t seen them without Travis Kelce,” McCoy said.

Kelce was drafted by the Chiefs in 2013.
Since he was drafted, he has missed just three games due to injuries throughout this span.
In the NFL, the best ability is availability, which Kelce has provided to the Chiefs’ offense, even without Mahomes.
His role continues to be a safety blanket for Mahomes, as McCoy said in this segment.
Without him, the Chiefs’ offense will look vastly different, no matter what direction they decide to go.
Noah Gray is Kelce’s backup.
While he has provided a few highlight plays throughout his career, he doesn’t have a lot of NFL experience.
With experience comes trust from a quarterback.
If a quarterback knows they can trust a player, they are more likely to throw them the ball, especially in crunch-time situations.
Gray might not be in line for a significant workload in this contest, especially given it’s the season opener.
Mahomes could turn to Kadarius Toney or Skyy Moore instead, players he targeted in the Super Bowl, which helped lead them to victory.
