The Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to take the field for their season opener vs. the Detroit Lions.

The Lions aren’t the same team of old, and they’re going to give plenty of teams a lot of trouble this season.

They’ve added plenty of talent on both sides of the field, and Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo has already set his sights on one of their playmakers: Jahmyr Gibbs.

Talking ahead of the season opener, Spagnuolo reckoned Gibbs would be hard to contain, via NFL.com.

“It’s all eyeballs on No. 26 when he goes in the game,” Spagnuolo said. “That’s one of the things we’ve been talking about, know where he is and if he’s in the game because we certainly think with a guy that’s that explosive they’re going to try to find way to get him the ball.”

The rookie out of Alabama is one of the most dynamic and explosive running backs to enter the league in quite a while.

He’s projected to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving, giving Jared Goff and the Lions offense plenty to work with.

Gibbs will begin the season sharing his carries with veteran RB David Montgomery, but it could be just a matter of time before the rookie first-round pick gets the bulk of the workload.

Amon-Ra St. Brown will continue to be the focal point in the passing game, while second-year pro Jameson Williams will also have a prominent role in the offense once he’s back after serving his gambling-related suspension.

The Chiefs may be without their best defensive player, Chris Jones, who’s still holding out amid a contract dispute, and keeping Gibbs and Dan Campbell’s explosive offense in check will be a tough task.

We could be in for a treat and a shootout to start the season, and that’s great news for the fans.
