According to several reports, Russell Wilson always wanted to work with former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton.

And now that he’ll get that opportunity, some believe he could remember that old saying that states that one should always be careful what one wishes for.

The new Denver Broncos coach has taken a tough-love approach since taking the reins of the team, and he’s made it loud and clear that no one — not even Wilson — would get any sort of special treatment anymore, as opposed to what happened during the previous regime.

That’s why former player Willie Colon predicts there could be some friction at some point between Wilson and Payton.

In his recent appearance on “The Carton Show,” he stated that Payton could be looking at Wilson as a guy he might have to bench at some point in the campaign.

“I don’t think he knows if he has a quarterback of the future in Russell Wilson. I think he looks at Russell Wilson and goes, ‘I may bench you this year.'”

Payton has made it known that he’s looking forward to setting the tone early and developing a winning culture in Denver, and accountability will be a big part of that.

Wilson signed a $245 million contract extension as soon as he arrived in Mile High, and Payton would be sending a clear message by benching him, letting his players know that no one is safe if they don’t do their job.

Payton is a hard-nosed coach and was brought there to win football games by any means necessary.

And if Russell Wilson is unable to turn the page after the worst season of his career, he won’t hesitate to lay the hammer on him.
