After a Super Bowl win for the second time with head coach Andy Reid calling the shots on the sideline and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the way under center, the Kansas City Chiefs could get off to a rocky start to the 2023 NFL season.

The defending Super Bowl champions will likely be without seven-time All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce to start the season due to a knee injury he suffered in practice earlier this week.

Along with being without arguably the best tight end in the game today, and perhaps of all time, the Chiefs look like they will also be without their best defensive player, with defensive tackle Chris Jones still working on a new deal with the team.

With the clock ticking toward the start of the season for the Chiefs, Jones made some public comments on Wednesday about his situation with the team and admitted that he wants to play for Kansas City for the rest of his career, according to Aaron Ladd of KSHB 41 News.

Obviously, that’s exactly what the Chiefs want to hear, and the team is actively working to make that a reality, but it doesn’t seem like the two sides will come to an agreement in time to get him on the field against the Lions on Thursday night in Kansas City.

However, that could quickly change if the two sides are determined to come to terms on a deal and work through the night to get it done, but right now, it seems like Jones won’t be playing in Week 1 for the defending champions.
