The Kansas City Chiefs are a day away from getting the 2023 NFL season started, with the Detroit Lions anxious and waiting to take on the defending Super Bowl champions on Thursday night at GEHA Field at Arrowhead.
Unfortunately for the Chiefs, it appears they’ll still be without their best defensive player, with defensive tackle Chris Jones and the franchise seemingly nowhere closer to coming to terms on a new deal.
Even though the San Francisco 49ers were able to get a deal done with reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa ahead of Week 1, the Chiefs look like they’ll have to take on Jared Goff and company without Jones rushing the passer.
On Wednesday, Jones made some interesting comments about his holdout with the Chiefs and seems to be taking a direct shot at those criticizing him for wanting a pay raise, via Aaron Ladd of KSHB 41 News.

After an All-Pro season that resulted in another Vince Lombardi Trophy being placed in the trophy case in Kansas City, it’s not all that surprising that Jones would look to get compensated or at least set up his long-term future with the Chiefs at a higher rate.
It happens every year with some of the best and brightest in the NFL, and it will continue to happen for many years to come.
However, it’s also inevitable to see fans come at Jones and the team for not getting something done before the start of the season on Thursday, as the Chiefs will likely also be without superstar tight end Travis Kelce against the Lions due to a knee injury, which hurts the team’s chances of getting a win to start the 2023 campaign.
