The Kansas City Chiefs had a scare in a practice leading up to the regular season opener.

Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee, and the immediate severity was unknown.

It was later revealed that he has a bone bruise, luckily avoiding an injury to the structural component of his knee.

While many fans believed this was a death sentence regarding Kelce’s Week 1 status, more information has come out.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs will workout Kelce in the morning of the game, testing his knee before making their final decision.

The #Chiefs plan to put star TE Travis Kelce through a workout this morning to test his injured knee, per source.

Just two days after hyperextending the knee and suffering a bone bruise in practice, Kelce is a true game-day decision for tonight’s opener vs. the #Lions.

Pelissero called Kelce a “true game-day decision” for the Chiefs’ first game against the Detroit Lions.

This, at least, is a reason for optimism among Chiefs fans.

The combination of Kelce and Patrick Mahomes has turned into a top duo across the league.

Several teams have tried to emulate this success, but to this point, Kelce remains the most dominant tight end in the league by most metrics.

He is consistently among the league leaders in receptions and yards, far and above his tight end counterparts.

Without him on the field, many pundits wonder what the Chiefs offense will look like, given he has missed minimal games throughout his career.

Pelissero’s report doesn’t mean Kelce is a shoo-in to play in this game, but it does open the door.

If he doesn’t play, receiving options like Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney will be called upon to step up, taking on a larger target share.
