The Washington Commanders are ready to start a new era.
And with the new owners hinting at the possibility of changing the franchise’s name again, some fans speculated that they could go back to their former Washington Redskins name.
That’s why part-owner Mitchell Rales told Nicki Jhabvala (via Dov Kleiman) that they’re not going to go back to the Redskins name under any circumstances.

“That ship has sailed.”
It’s possible team might make a name change though to something else, any suggestions to what it should be?https://t.co/i8LslLBd8u pic.twitter.com/r4yiuPpCiQ

For years, Native Americans and activists urged the Commanders to change their name, stating that the Redskins name, logo, and apparel were offensive to their culture.
The decision to go from Redskins to Commanders was met with mixed opinions, and they even spent two seasons under the “Washington Football Team” name.
Whatever the case, the fans and the front office are more focused on winning actual football games than on whatever they want to call the team.
Ron Rivera will have an elite assistant coach by his side in Eric Bieniemy, and while not many players were fond of his tough love and intense way of coaching, he’s one of the best offensive minds in today’s game.
Also, having second-year pro Sam Howell under center should help them fare much better than they did last season, although it’s not like the bar was very high, with quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke pulling the strings of the offense.
It’s an exciting time to be a fan of the Commanders, and that won’t change regardless of how they decide to name the team after this season.
