Atlanta Braves starter Michael Soroka pitched on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The results weren’t satisfactory from a performance standpoint, since he allowed five runs in three innings against a last-place team.

However, he was also pulled with an injury, which could have affected the way he pitched.

He was pulled, and right after the game, the Braves said the pitcher would be going to the injured list due to numbness in his fingers.

It turns out the issue was related to his forearm, according to Braves insider David O’Brien.

“Just forearm inflammation for #Braves’ Michael Soroka. He’s done for the season, but no ligament damage, no surgery,” he tweeted.

Avoiding surgery is always good news, but in all likelihood, he won’t pitch again this year as O’Brien states.

He ends his season with a 6.30 ERA in 32.1 innings.

The numbers are certainly disappointing, but it wasn’t all bad.

His Triple-A numbers were actually very solid, with a 3.41 ERA in 87 frames.

And most importantly, he showed his Achilles could hold for an entire season after tearing it in 2020 and re-tearing it in 2021.

In the end, the home-run ball doomed him at the MLB level, as he allowed nine of them.

Still, the Braves should be happy with his progress and are probably happy to keep him around as pitching depth for the future.

For now, however, he won’t be able to take the mound again in 2023 as he recovers from his forearm injury.

Perhaps he isn’t the pitcher who had a 2.68 ERA in 2019 anymore, but he can be useful.
