The New York Mets have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this season.

After winning 101 games last year, almost everyone thought they would be a playoff team at worst this season.

But that has not been the case.

The Mets are 64-75 on the year and will not be going to the playoffs.

One of the many reasons for their bad season could be the injury to closer Edwin Diaz.

Last year, Diaz was one of the best pitchers in baseball.

However, he did not get the chance to pitch for the Mets this season due to an injury he suffered in the World Baseball Classic.

Diaz tore his patellar tendon in the WBC and that was the start of the Mets’ downfall.

But Diaz does seem to be recovering well from the surgery and should be back to full strength next season.

SNY Mets posted this video of Diaz simulating his windup in the bullpen.

Diaz would be a welcome sign back to the Mets bullpen if they were in contention.

But since they are out of the race there is no point in trying to rush him back.

It would be wise if the Mets give him until next spring training to recover.

Even though this season was a disaster for the Mets, they can still rebound next year.

But, if they are going to do that, having Diaz finish games will be crucial.

The Mets have blown 16 saves this season.

Diaz only blew three in 35 appearances last season.

While his presence alone will not turn the Mets back into a playoff team, it will certainly help.
