Atlanta Braves star Matt Olson was considered a bona fide MVP candidate in the National League not so long ago.

His name was being mentioned in the same sentence as his teammate Ronald Acuna Jr. and the Los Angeles Dodgers duo of Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts.

He then cooled off some and went 81 plate appearances without a home run.

That started to change on Sunday, when he homered against the Dodgers in the series finale.

It looked like a hot streak for him was around the corner, because he also homered on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“After the home run drought that lasted 81 plate appearances, Matt Olson is back. He has homered in three straight games. His 46 home runs lead all of MLB,” MLB analyst Justin Toscano tweeted.

Olson has re-taken the MLB home run lead with 46 and has a real chance to hit 50 for the first time in his career.

While Acuna, Freeman, and Betts fight for the league leads in categories such as stolen bases, batting average, runs scored, OBP and the like, Olson’s game is more straightforward: power and run production.

With 46 home runs and 115 RBI, Olson is the clear leader in both categories.

He is one of just three players who have surpassed the 100-RBI barrier at this point, and the closest to him is Pete Alonso with 102.

If he keeps mashing as he has, there is a chance he wins the NL MVP after all.

He has the keep his foot on the gas, though.
