During the offseason, Tyler Herro has been one player who seems to have no idea where he might be playing to start the 2023-24 NBA season.
Herro’s fate is completely out of his hands at this point, with the Miami Heat seemingly more than willing to trade him if they can land superstar guard Damian Lillard in a blockbuster trade.
However, the Portland Trail Blazers don’t seem to be interested in trading for Herro, which has led to speculation about a potential three-team or four-team trade in order for the Heat to acquire Lillard.
This doesn’t make Herro look great, as he’s the best player the Heat are willing to part ways with, but his value takes a hit with Portland not being interested in acquiring him.
ESPN’s Marc J. Spears believes the narrative about Herro right now is unfair as he thinks the young player is a “phenomenal shooter” and is a player that any team would and should want, as he said on the Miami Herald’s “Heat Check” show.
“I don’t know why there’s this Tyler Herro hate. I think he’s a phenomenal shooter and player. I don’t know why it’s like ‘We don’t want him’. Could he be the best player on the [Blazers] next season? He could be.” – @MarcJSpears via @MiamiHerald

It seems as though the Blazers don’t want to bring in another guard who will need the ball to be successful, as they want to develop rookie Scoot Henderson into the team’s next superstar.
That said, the Blazers might value wing players or big men more when it comes to Lillard trade talks.
It remains to be seen how this whole thing pans out heading toward the 2023-24 NBA season, as the Blazers will have to make a decision soon to avoid the awkwardness of bringing back Lillard to start the season.
