Last season with the Memphis Grizzlies, forward Dillon Brooks made a lot of noise in the NBA as one of the best perimeter defenders in the league and a player who was vital to his team’s success because he could guard the best player on the other team.

Brooks became somewhat of a pest for the Grizzlies as he caused problems for opponents on a regular basis, but it seems as though his on-court antics, especially during the NBA playoffs against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, grew tiresome.

The Grizzlies let it be known that they had no intention of bringing Brooks back in NBA free agency this summer, which made his future in the league uncertain, to say the least.

However, the Houston Rockets jumped at the opportunity to bring him in and signed him to a deal worth $80 million, which was shocking.

Now Brooks is helping Canada make some noise in the FIBA World Cup, with the squad set to face Serbia in the semifinals, and as a result of his recent success, he made the bold statement that he’s the best perimeter defender in the world, according to Sportal.gr via NBACentral.

Dillon Brooks believes he’s the best perimeter defender in the entire world

Players like Brooks like to make a spectacle of themselves and embrace the villain role, and clearly, that’s working for him after landing the four-year deal with the Rockets.

However, these kinds of stances can backfire quickly, especially if he gets torched against Serbia or in the final against Team USA or Germany.

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out in the FIBA World Cup and if Canada is the last country standing.
