Los Angeles Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk has a $9.3 million salary this season.

He started the year with the Colorado Rockies, but was a deadline acquisition by the Angels back when they were actually in contention.

That’s not the case anymore, and the Angels placed the player on waivers a few days ago hoping for some salary relief.

No team bit, and he returned to the Angels who are on the hook for the remainder of his salary in 2023.

After no team wanted to take on that salary commitment, the Angels were forced to keep the player.

This week, on Wednesday, they placed him on waivers again.

The Angels hope that some team is now prepared to add Grichuk’s salary and take the player.

So far, no news on that front.

In the meantime, Grichuk is showing he is a consummate pro and keeps producing with the bat.

He actually won the game for the Angels on Thursday.

“Randal Grichuk wins it. Walkoff single snaps the 6-game losing streak. Grichuk has been put on waivers twice in the last week, including yesterday. The Angels wanted the salary relief, but I suppose they’ll take a walkoff,” Angels insider Sam Blum tweeted.

For the season as a whole, Grichuk is batting .268/.322/.449 with 13 home runs, 23 doubles, 52 runs scored, and 37 RBI.

He also boasts a solid, if not spectacular, .772 OPS.

Realistically, Grichuk is good enough to help a contending team as a regular corner outfielder or as a part-time player on a really good squad.

His salary is the only thing preventing teams from claiming him.
