On Sunday, the Denver Broncos will begin what they hope will be a road to redemption when they host the Las Vegas Raiders in their first game of the new regular season.
Last year was an unmitigated disaster for them, as they went 5-12 due to an abysmal offense, and much of the blame has been directed at quarterback Russell Wilson.
Wilson was acquired last offseason in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks, and Denver gave up lots of capital to land the future Hall of Famer.
Many are doubting the 34-year-old, but he sounds determined to prove them wrong, as he says he has been keeping “receipts.”

After playing excellent football on a consistent basis in his 10 seasons in Seattle, Wilson threw for just 16 touchdowns and completed only 60.5 percent of his passes, and his passer rating fell to 84.4.
Those three figures were all career lows for him.
It is debatable whether his poor performance was due to mileage or because the Broncos’ offensive system was an embarrassment all around.
This season, they have new head coach Sean Payton, who is best known for coaching the legendary Drew Brees and guiding the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl championship during the 2009 season.
Payton’s Saints teams consistently ranked high in multiple offensive categories, and the hope is that he will do the same for the Broncos.
They haven’t made the playoffs since the 2015 campaign, which happens to be the last time they won the Super Bowl in Peyton Manning’s farewell season.
