On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs began their Super Bowl title defense with a home contest against the upstart Detroit Lions.

It was supposed to be the first step towards winning another world championship and becoming a dynasty, but instead, Kansas City fell to Detroit, 21-20, thanks to some self-inflicted wounds.

One man who was left looking bad following this loss was sports personality Nick Wright.

He had predicted the Chiefs would go undefeated all the way to the Super Bowl, and he even got a tattoo to double down on that 20-0 prediction.

Already, he is wrong, and his colleague Chris Broussard called it possibly the worst prediction he has ever made.

“20-0?! How about 1-0? Never a Doubt?! How about never a chance! @getnickwright, from this moment on I don’t want to hear another joke about the Nets, the Clippers, Jimmy G. You’ve lost that right!”

It is hard to imagine why anyone would have seriously predicted the Chiefs would go 20-0 this season, despite their recent success.

First off, they lost JuJu Smith-Schuster, their most productive wide receiver last season, as well as star left tackle Orlando Brown Jr., a four-time Pro Bowler, in free agency.

Second, the Chiefs are currently without star defensive lineman Chris Jones, who is holding out in order to secure a big contract extension, and it is anyone’s guess when he will receive that new deal and start suiting up.

Third, star tight end Travis Kelce is out with a bone bruise in his knee, and it is unclear when he will be ready to return.

Depleted as the Chiefs were, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who normally seems capable of rising to any challenge, looked rather ordinary without any consistently reliable receivers.

A number of his passes were dropped, especially by wideout Kadarius Toney, including one that resulted in a pick-six.

Kansas City will have their work cut out for them, as they will face the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets on the road in two of their next three games.
