The Chicago Cubs are in the middle of a playoff race.

They are 77-67, three games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the division lead in the NL Central and currently owning the second Wild Card spot.

Chicago wants to make sure they remain a highly competitive team, so they are willing to take calculated risks.

One of those risks is calling up their top prospect: outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

“Big news in Chicago: Top outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong is being called up by the Cubs, sources tell ESPN. The plan is for him to be activated on Tuesday. Cubs are gearing up for a playoff run, and their best prospect will be there with them,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan tweeted.

Crow-Armstrong, who came from the New York Mets in the Javier Baez trade in 2021, is a fantastic defensive center fielder who unlocked significant game power after a swing change in 2022.

He finished last season with 16 home runs between Single-A and High-A, plus 32 stolen bases.

He has taken things to another level in 2023, with 20 homers and 37 thefts between Double-A and Triple-A.

Armstrong has the look of a future WAR (Wins Above Replacement) star: he plays a premium position extremely well, he takes walks, steal bases, and he hits home runs.

He has the potential to be a star down the road for the Cubs, but the team is betting on him getting as close to his best-case scenario in terms of potential/production as he can.

He is a top prospect and will now have the chance of making an impact in MLB this season.
