The Buffalo Bills and New York Jets will face off in the first Monday Night Football matchup in 2023.

This is a crucial game for the state of New York as it is taking place on the anniversary of 9/11.

Emotions will likely run high throughout this contest for multiple reasons, and it is slated to be a fantastic matchup.

According to a recent update from Adam Schefter, the Bills will be without Damar Hamlin for this contest.

Damar Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest and required resuscitation on the field during a “Monday Night Football” game in Cincinnati last January before his inspirational comeback, is not expected to be active for tonight’s regular-season opener vs. the Jets, per @rgiii and me.

According to Schefter’s report, the Bills chose to keep Hamlin inactive for this contest.

Whether this is for precautionary measures or if there is something of substance behind this remains to be seen.

Without Hamlin, the Bills will have to rely on others in the secondary to get the job done, including Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde, and Tre’Davious White.

They were one of the league’s top defenses last year, partially due to Hamlin filling in for Hyde.

Both teams will want to start the season on the right foot, and any miscue could result in a loss.

Many analysts project at least one of these two teams to make the playoffs this year in what is slated to be a crowded AFC.

Who will come away with the victory on this emotionally charged evening?

The winner will begin the year with a 1-0 record, starting the season with a leg up on their competition in the divisional race.

This will be the first time NFL defenses will see the Aaron Rodgers effect on the Jets’ offense.
