Heading into Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season, the Cincinnati Bengals were expected to be a legitimate title contender and perhaps the best team in a highly competitive AFC North division.
Unfortunately, the Bengals struggled right out of the gate with a forgettable performance against the division rival Cleveland Browns on Sunday, with Joe Burrow throwing for a career-low 82 yards in a 24-3 loss to start the 2023 campaign.
The Browns defense was all over the Bengals offense on Sunday, as Burrow barely had any time to make anything happen once the ball was snapped, resulting in a bad performance for the receiving corps, which could be among the best in the league led by Ja’Marr Chase.
Although Chase is the focal point of the offense, Tee Higgins is another player who can put up numbers, but he couldn’t have had a worse performance, as he recorded zero catches despite being targeted eight times.
In the aftermath of this loss for the Bengals, former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson of FOX Sports called out Higgins for his performance, via “Undisputed” on Monday.
.@Keyshawn’s message to Tee Higgins after recording 0 catches vs. Browns:
“Don’t put that tape out there like that again, it’s money time. You can’t have 8 targets and 0 catches. You’re better than that.” pic.twitter.com/FGRrwQcSMF

Right before the season began, a report surfaced about Higgins’ future with the Bengals after the team decided not to extend his contract after three productive seasons in Cincinnati.
Apparently, the Bengals aren’t prioritizing keeping Higgins beyond this season, as they appear willing to let him walk in NFL free agency, which is a bit surprising considering how consistent he’s been as the No. 2 option behind Chase.
This may have impacted Higgins’ mindset heading into the season and could continue to be a problem moving forward until he realizes his future is on the line in the NFL in general.
