The Dodgers Are Calling Up An Elite Prospect

The Los Angeles Dodgers are a pitching factory.

Walker Buehler, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, Julio Urias, Jimmy Nelson, and Michael Grove are out for different reasons.

That’s an entire rotation, and doesn’t even include the time Clayton Kershaw has had to miss with his own physical ailments.

However, they are also capable of producing quality major leaguers: some of them out of nowhere, and others are renowned prospects that they have been able to draft, sign and develop.

Their most recent roster move is a testament of the depth of their farm system and their confidence in their own prospects.

“The Los Angeles Dodgers are calling up Kyle Hurt, a RHP prospect with the highest strikeout rate in the minors this year, sources tell ESPN. Monster fastball, tons of swing-and-miss on secondaries and 145 Ks in 88.1 innings between AA and AAA. He’ll work out of the bullpen,” MLB insider Jeff Passan tweeted.

Only the Dodgers can have the luxury of calling up the starter with the best strikeout rate in the minors and use him in the bullpen.

Truth be told, LA has been preparing for this move for a while.

After pitching 19 games in Double-A and starting 15 of them, he was moved to Triple-A recently.

There, he pitched six games but started just one.

His Triple-A ERA was an impressive 3.09, with 35 strikeouts in 23.1 frames.

He could be quite effective in a multi-inning role, and that’s how the Dodgers will probably use him.

He has a chance to secure a place on the postseason roster if he impresses.
