The Los Angeles Rams shocked the world by taking down the Seattle Seahawks in the first game of the season.

The Seahawks were favored and expected to be one of the best teams in the division, but Pete Carroll didn’t have his team ready to perform.

QB Geno Smith admitted that the Rams outplayed them because they wanted it more than them, and WR D.K. Metcalf agreed with that statement.

Metcalf struggled to get much going throughout the course of the game, and he was ejected for shoving Rams CB Ahkello Witherspoon late in the game.

Now, he admits that Smith was right about the Rams working harder than them, and he admits he wasn’t at his best and wasn’t as energetic as he should’ve been in the season opener:

“I really can’t speak for everybody else’s, but my part was just effort,” Metcalf said, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “And play after play, just 100% effort, it wasn’t just there like it’s been in the past. So, I know that’s one thing I’ve got to clean up.”

The Seahawks now travel to Detroit for a tough assignment vs. the Detroit Lions, who are coming off a major upset over the reigning Super Bowl champions, Kansas City Chiefs.

The Lions sold out their season tickets at Ford Field, so the Seahawks will be facing a very hostile environment as they look to avoid falling to a 0-2 hole.

They’re fresh off a trip to the playoffs and were expected to battle the San Francisco 49ers for the top spot in the NFC West division, and while that’s still not out of the question, they do need to be much better and stay locked in.

The Seahawks have more talent this year than they did last season, but they’ll also need to match last year’s intensity.
