The Dallas Cowboys and their fans have a lot to be happy and excited about these days.

The team started its 2023 season off in pretty much perfect fashion by obliterating the New York Giants, 40-0, on Sunday, and multiple pundits have said it has a shot at becoming a truly dominant defensive squad.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said he feels Dallas’ best defensive football is in front of them, via Ed Werder.

Last season, Dallas was fifth in points allowed, but there were some holes, as they finished just 22nd in rushing yards given up and 14th in passing touchdowns allowed.

This offseason, they went out and acquired star cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who is teaming up with Trevon Diggs to make their secondary look savage.

Combined with All-Pro First-Team defender Micah Parsons and stud defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, many have very high hopes for Dallas’ defense.

The team won 12 games in each of the last two seasons, but lost early in the playoffs both times to the San Francisco 49ers.

In fact, the Cowboys haven’t been to the NFC Championship Game since the 1995 season, which also happens to be the last time they won the Super Bowl.

Some feel the Achilles heel of the team could be quarterback Dak Prescott, who doesn’t seem to raise his game on the big stage as much as he needs to.

In last year’s Divisional round loss to the 49ers, he threw two interceptions and completed just 23 of 37 passes.

Another battle between the Cowboys and the 49ers in this winter’s playoffs could be in the cards.
