The New York Jets headed into the 2023 NFL season with high hopes of competing for a Super Bowl title, with the team bringing in superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers to lead this team under center.
Many believed that Rodgers was the missing piece to the championship puzzle in New York, but now the team must pivot in a different direction, with the four-time NFL MVP going down with an Achilles injury in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills.
Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles on his first series with his new team on Sunday night, which has completely changed the outlook of the season for the Jets, as it is unclear whether this team can still compete with the best of the best without the superstar under center.
The team will now turn to Zach Wilson as their starter for the time being, which is obviously a considerable step back, as his play last year was one of the motivating factors to acquire Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers.
Although the outlook now looks bleak for the Jets without Rodgers, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky of ESPN believes the team should try to do what the New York Giants did last season with Daniel Jones, via “Get Up.”
“The Jets this year need to become the Giants of last year. … They won a lot of games on the back of … a simplistic style. … Zach Wilson’s capable.”

The Giants came out of nowhere last season after hiring Brian Daboll to be their new head coach and defied the odds all season long to make the NFL playoffs and pull off an impressive upset over the Minnesota Vikings.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Jets can pivot after losing Rodgers and salvage a season that was supposed to be one of the franchise’s best.
