The New York Jets’ Super Bowl aspirations took a big hit on Monday night.
Aaron Rodgers being out for the season made them go from contenders to playoff hopefuls, even if they have plenty of talent at most positions.
HC Robert Saleh has let it be known that he doesn’t intend to bring in a replacement for Zach Wilson, stating that he fully trusts him to hold down the fort while Rodgers is gone.
Nonetheless, most members of the media don’t seem to be so convinced about that and believe it’s just a matter of time before Wilson shows he’s not ready to be that guy yet.
With that in mind, Mike Greenberg of ESPN — who also happens to be a confessed diehard Jets fan — proposed the team go after Kirk Cousins.

Now that the Green Bay Packers won’t be getting the Jets’ first-round pick next year because Rodgers failed to play 70% of the snaps, they could use that pick to convince the Minnesota Vikings to part ways with their QB1.
Cousins is going to be a free agent at the end of the season anyway, and the Vikings are 0-2, so having two first-round picks could help them get a suitable replacement in USC star Caleb Williams.
Of course, Cousins has had his fair share of struggles, mainly in primetime games, but he’d still be an upgrade over Zach Wilson at this point in both players’ careers.
For now, however, it seems like the Jets would only consider going after a veteran backup who won’t be another distraction.
