For the San Francisco 49ers, health seems to be the biggest deterrent between them and winning a Super Bowl.
For example, the 49ers were one game away from appearing in Super Bowl LVII but they saw Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson both get hurt in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
So far, though, San Francisco has managed to stay healthy as they have a 1-0 record to begin the 2023 NFL season.
When all their players are available, the 49ers boast one of the most talented and deepest rosters in the league as they’ve got stars on both sides of the field.
Offensively, San Francisco has multiple playmakers in Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey who can score in an instant but also come with lengthy injury histories.
In the wake of Aaron Rodgers rupturing his Achilles at MetLife Stadium, Samuel made it clear where he stands on the grass versus turf debate via USA Today.
“I am a firm believer of grass,” Samuel said. “In the position I play, I would prefer playing on grass any day.”

NFL players have been complaining about the NFL’s insistence on turf surfaces in stadiums as several of their peers have suffered injuries because of it.
Some argue that the rate and type of injuries happen just about equally on either surface, though to Samuel’s point, there are a lot of receivers who prefer to play on grass.
With Rodgers lost in Week 1 of the year, the NFL may have to seriously consider making the switch to grass if more star players end up having to miss the rest of the season.
Player safety should always be the league’s top priority, so hopefully changes are made soon.
