The Indiana Pacers are reportedly trying to move one of the league’s best shooters.

Buddy Hield couldn’t reach a contract extension with the organization, so they’ve given him the green light to pursue a new destination somewhere else.

With that in mind, NBA salary cap analyst Keith Smith reveals that Hield’s departure will most likely open up the door for an Aaron Nesmith extension, as they were reportedly quite happy with what he brought to the team since arriving there via the Boston Celtics.

If/when the Pacers trade Buddy Hield, it makes it more likely Indiana signs Aaron Nesmith to an extension. They were really happy with what Nesmith brought to the team last year, and a deal for him won’t break the bank to keep up good wing depth.

Nesmith entered the league as an intriguing prospect, but he struggled to find his footing in Boston’s wing-stacked roster, which comes as no surprise.

He’s likely to come off the bench to serve as Bennedict Mathurin’s primary backup, and the Pacers could have a very promising and exciting roster next season.

Tyrese Haliburton spending his summer with Team USA could do wonders for his game.

He has all the talent in the world, and with Mathurin taking another step forward as a walking bucket, they may not even need Hield’s three-point shooting prowess.

The Pacers flirted with postseason contention last season, but Haliburton missing time took a major toll on their chances.

They’re in no rush to go back to the playoffs but could be far ahead of schedule if their young guys continue to click and prove their worth.

As for Hield, there will be no shortage of suitors for his services, as he’s been one of the most efficient volume three-point shooters in the league for years now.
