The Los Angeles Lakers had the opportunity to have one of the greatest dynasties of all time.

Shaquille O’Neal’s beef with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers front office prevented them from dominating the league for years and years.

That’s why it was such a heartbreak to realize that they couldn’t coexist anymore or figure things out, which is why the Lakers eventually traded Shaq to the Miami Heat.

Needless to say, as competitive as Shaq was and as big as his ego still is, he couldn’t allow the Lakers to be better than them.

That’s why, according to Dwyane Wade, he called the team out when he realized they had the same record as the Lakers, stating that he wanted to win another ring before Kobe, and that he had arrived to South Beach to compete at the highest level, not to be average (via Club Shay Shay).

Ironically, Kobe went on to beat Shaq in the ring count, getting one more, which is something that must’ve eaten him alive inside.

Kobe and Shaq eventually made amends, and they grew close after their playing days.

Shaq has often talked about how much he regrets their feud and not being closer to Kobe, and it’s crazy to think that they could’ve realistically won at least three or four more rings together, even with Tim Duncan and the up-and-coming San Antonio Spurs.

They will go down as one of the biggest “what ifs” in the history of sports.
