The Dallas Mavericks didn’t want to take any chances with Kyrie Irving.
They had already given up a lot to get him, so they couldn’t afford to just let him walk away.
That’s why, on top of offering him a very lucrative deal, they went the extra mile and kept him involved in their decision-making process throughout the course of the offseason.
In his latest media availability, the former No. 1 pick revealed that the team actually asked him for his input and thoughts on some of the moves they intended to make, which obviously made him feel like he was in the right place (via HoopsHype).

The Mavericks were one of the most active teams in the NBA offseason.
They liked what they saw in the few games that Irving and Luka Doncic could share the floor.
They had one of the best offenses in the game with the two in the backcourt, but their defense was subpar, and it was evident that they also needed to add some size and physicality to their lineup.
As discouraging as the early returns of this pairing were, the Mavs have full confidence in this team’s ability to get the job done and get back to the NBA Finals for the first time after the Dirk Nowitzki era.
Needless to say, that will also depend on whether Kyrie wants to stay there for the long run, and there aren’t that many distractions off the court.
Should that be the case, then they could be a big dark horse out of the Western Conference.
