NBA players don’t seem to care about the FIBA Basketball World Cup anymore, at least American ones.
While the rest of the world looks to team up and get in sync for that tournament, they just save the big stars for the Olympics.
That’s why it wasn’t much of a surprise to see Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant confirm the rumors about him committing to play for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics (via Malika Andrews).

Following Team USA’s tough elimination from the World Cup, a report surfaced of LeBron James leading an initiative that included the likes of Durant, Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, and Jayson Tatum, among many other superstars, to commit and play in the Olympics.
Needless to say, Americans have held a historical edge and dominance over the rest of the world in this competition, but it’s not like it’s going to be a cakewalk to the podium.
Even if Team USA boasts more talent than any other team on Earth, some of the players aren’t exactly young, and it’ll likely be their last chance to play for the national team.
More than that, FIBA basketball has also proven that it takes more than just stacking up talent to thrive in international play.
Other teams have been together for quite a while, and international NBA players seem to have an extra gear every single time they suit up to play for their national teams.
Still, it would be hard to bet against Team USA with that plethora of talent.
