Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks wants to win and that means he can’t necessarily be friendly with some of his competitors.

Speaking to Chris Haynes, via NBA TV, Antetokounmpo opened up about why he doesn’t workout with other players in the NBA.

“How can you workout together when we are in the same league and we’re going against one another?” Antetokounmpo said.

Claiming that he cannot “fake it” with his opponents, Antetokounmpo said: “The reason I’m not winning the championship is you.”

“How can you workout together when we are in the same league and we’re going against one another? … The reason I’m not winning a championship is you. … How the hell will I workout with you?”

These aren’t the first comments he has made about workouts and competing.

A few weeks ago, Antetokounmpo said that he didn’t know how to be “phony” and that he keeps his distance from other basketball stars because getting close to them “takes off the edge when I play against them.”

Based on what Antetokounmpo is saying, it sounds like he isn’t making a whole lot of friends throughout the league.

That isn’t because he’s an unfriendly guy – quite the opposite seems true.

But he doesn’t want to become friendly with the people he is intent on taking down during the regular season.

Workouts between stars on different teams have been happening for years.

It is not uncommon to see players from the Golden State Warriors or Los Angeles Lakers work out with those of the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, or any other franchise during the summer.

It is a way for players to learn more, stay in shape, and also be friendly with the select few people who understand the unique position of playing in the league.

But Antetokounmpo isn’t buying into that process.

He will instead workout with himself or with teammates that can help him win a championship.
