For the first time in his NBA career, LeBron James — does — need more help.

People have always cracked jokes about how much more help LeBron needs, and that could be fair, as he often assembled superteams.

But he’s soon to be 39 years old, and he can no longer carry the burden on his own.

That’s why, unlike what Skip Bayless says and thinks, Rachel Nichols believes there’s no harm in James’ comments about needing Anthony Davis or someone else to step up in the clutch when the game is on the line.

To me, there’s no magic ‘closer’ in the NBA who’s gonna take every single clutch shot – even MJ had John Paxson & Steve Kerr hitting daggers to win titles. Yes, you need a players you can count on in crunch time, but everything can’t – and shouldn’t – rest on a near-39-year-old. pic.twitter.com/VuaqHAVcyy

Nichols pointed out the fact that even Michael Jordan — Skip’s favorite player — often needed John Paxson, Steve Kerr, and Scottie Pippen in crunch time because there’s no such thing as one magical closer.

Of course, some players have risen to the occasion every now and then, while others tend to disappear in the clutch.

But James has a long history of thriving when the game is on the line, so it’s not like he hasn’t been up to the task throughout the course of his career.

In reality, there’s simply no way a 39-year-old playing his 21st season should be a team’s go-to-guy, and that only speaks volumes of LeBron’s greatness.

Anthony Davis needs to take a leap forward and prove that he can be the guy the Lakers hoped he’d be when they traded for him.

It should be his team now, with LeBron being the Robin to his Batman and not the other way around.
