The Boston Celtics needed a defensive-minded lead guard, and they got one of the best in the business.
Trading for Jrue Holiday may have put them over the top again, shortly after the Milwaukee Bucks beat them for Damian Lillard.
Holiday had stated that he wanted to be a Milwaukee Buck for life just hours before being traded, but it seems like he landed in the second-best place for him.
He looked happy to be in Boston, and felt humbled by Jaylen Brown talking about him as “an assassin” for his defensive prowess and competitive spirit.
In his media availability, Holiday gave back the compliments by calling Brown one of the best players he’s ever faced, adding that he’s utterly aggressive and competitive and that he might be stronger than him, which is not something he can say of most guards (via NBA TV).

That’s a lot of praise coming from one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, and a guy who most of his colleagues have often deemed as a pest when he’s guarding them.
Notably, both Holiday and Brown have similar games offensively, but they also have the same flaws.
They’re not so good at dribbling with their off hand, they’re not elite playmakers, and their shooting efficiency tends to dip later in the season.
Still, this Celtics team is stacked with talent on both ends of the floor, and Holiday might be just what they needed to get over the hump once and for all and raise banner No. 18.
