Early in the summer, the Philadelphia 76ers came to a mutual understanding with James Harden that they would look to trade the veteran star guard.

But they didn’t find any takers, leading to Harden accusing executive Daryl Morey of being a “liar.”

Now, with training camp underway, trade talks involving Harden have continued, with the Los Angeles Clippers, his preferred destination, showing serious interest in him.

According to Shams Charania, Philly is demanding guard Terance Mann and multiple first-round draft picks from the Clippers, via NBACentral.

Harden is going into the final year of his contract, which will pay him over $35 million this season, and according to league rules, Los Angeles will need to send the Sixers enough matching salary in the form of players for a trade to be legal.

Mann will make about $10.5 million this year, so more compensation will be needed from L.A.

But he has been a nice complementary guard for them over the last few seasons, and he could bolster the Sixers’ depth should they actually part with Harden.

Harden is originally from the Los Angeles area, and even at age 34, he appears to have something left in the tank.

The Clippers have always needed a legitimate point guard and floor general, and although Harden isn’t a natural one, he has done a good job lately of masquerading as one, and he even led the NBA in assists per game last season.

However, he has a checkered history of playing poorly in big playoff games, and that would be a big concern for a Clippers team that always seems to fall apart when it matters most.
